BOOK LAUNCH INVITATION
A new book that looks at experiences of childhood and youth in Co. Galway over the past 200 years. Growing Up in Galway: Histories and Memories began as a programme of short talks at the Galway City Museum on Culture Night, 2016. Subsequently, the organisers of that Culture Night event, NUI Galway historians John Cunningham and Sarah-Anne Buckley solicited contributions from other writers, and the result is a richly-illustrated publication which spans memories of carefree evenings at crossroads dances in the parish of Annaghdown to an account of the cruel regime at Letterfrack Industrial School, from the education of the nineteenth century landed elite to a student protest led by Michael D. Higgins, from the establishment of St Joseph’s Special School in Newcastle, to the burning of a Clifden orphanage during the Civil War.
Growing Up in Galway will be launched at the Galway City Museum by poet Elaine Feeney on Friday 1st December at 5.30 pm. All are welcome.
