CoderDojo BOI Trinity college
10:30 - 12:00
CoderDojo is a global volunteer-led community of free programming clubs for young people. Young people can learn how to code, make games and build websites in a fun, relaxed environment. This Dojo, located on Trinity College Dublin campus, is ran by Trinity students with a love for programming. Children of all abilities and interests are welcome.
The Dojo will be taking place in the Bank of Ireland branch on Trinity College campus. The Bank of Ireland branch is located on the Pearse Street side of the campus. Entry is available through the Science Gallery entrance.
It is not required that you have attended a previous dojo, everything will be taught from the beginning for newcomers.
On this week at CoderDojo Trinity College:
1. Scratch: This week our Scratch lesson will continue from what the kids worked on two weeks ago. We slow down the pace a bit as we begin to approach harder concepts so as to ensure each student understands. We hope to have a fully functional maze game by the end of the lesson and to begin creating a second level which the kids can continue working on at home. The aim of this lesson is to instill confidence in the the programming skills of the students so that they can freely work on their own projects and advance onto more complex problems by themselves.
2. HTML and CSS: For our HTML & CSS students we will carry on with the lesson plan they were working on in the first session. We encourage the students to take up some of the tasks themselves in the week prior to our session so we can begin to introduce some new content. Our aim is to complete this lesson plan an move onto adding more advanced functionality (such as buttons and textboxes) to our pages and to teach the kids more about the structures that underlie a webpage.
Any children aged 8 - 17 are welcome.
Those under 12 must be accompanied by a parent However, if other parents wish to be involved that would be great!
Attendees must bring their own laptop. None will be available at the venue
Please bring a WiFi enabled, fully charged laptop. Your laptop will require a browser, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, etc
