Day 1 - Prehab Foundations Date and Time: September 8, 2018 from 9 AM to 5 PM with lunch break Who Can Attend: Those seeking a foundational knowledge in movement, mobility, and injury prevention. This course is great for the general public and those professionals new to the functional movement world. Course Overview: This is a hands on course where you will learn how to optimize your movement, mobility, and recovery to stay injury free. You will primarily be up and moving around so wear comfortable clothes and be ready to move. Topics will cover full body mobility and training techniques taught to you by myself and how to optimize different performance and recovery factors in day to day life. The day will end with a free for all where you can ask me about anything and everything you want. The full course outline is below for those interested. PLAN! Here are the topics you can expect to cover during your day at the seminar. Lecture: What really reduces injury risk. Here, we dive into what functional movement and functional training really are and I explain my Principles of Prehab for you to introduce a priority based system that will guide you in determining where you need to focus to keep yourself injury free. There is an overwhelming amount of information out there on health and fitness. Here you will learn how to navigate that information and know what really matters. Intro to the 7 major movement patterns. This portion of the seminar is where we get up and moving. I want to break down movement for you in the simplest way possible. Here, we present the primary movements that we use in everyday life. Each movement has mobility and technique requirements in order to perform them correctly. We'll go through each one, and your note packet will have a checklist for you to reference anytime you want. Mobility Section. I'll teach you self assessments for each of your joints so you know what to address. Then I run you through my most effective mobility drills for each joint and apply them to the movements you want to perform. We will cover how and when to use static and dynamic stretching, joint mobilizations, myofascial release/foam rolling, and other common mobility techniques so that you have a complete and easy understanding of each one. Technique Section. Here you learn the key points of how to perform common training movements for each pattern. Technique gets broken into two sections, the basic checkpoints everyone should meet and then individual variances based on your own unique anatomy. In this section, you will find out the best way for YOU to move comfortably and effectively. We'll help you optimize your technique in the squat, deadlift, overhead press, core training, and more. Posture Section: In this section, we analyze and discuss posture, what it means, and how to implement the movement and mobility techniques we learned to change it. Preparation and Recovery: We end the day with a discussion on how different factors affect our recovery on a day to day basis. You'll learn about nutrition, sleep, managing psychological stress, how to develop an effective warm up, and more. Free For All: I like to end each day by touching on anything you want. This is your chance to ask me anything. In the past, we've covered everything from recovering from different injuries, to demoing specific movements, to busting myths, and explaining what goes into making my Instagram videos. This course is designed for health and fitness professionals who want to be able to better help their clients. Course Overview: Movement Optimization gives you the framework to better assess your clients as a whole and implement a straightforward movement correction plan through the use of our Prehab 101 Movement Maps. Additionally, we go deeper into the Principles of Prehab and how we can manipulate different factors to optimize our recovery times. Finally, we cover how to help the client who is in pain so that they can recover and get back to moving and training freely again. We end the day with a free for all where you can ask me about anything and everything you want. The full course outline is below for those interested. PLAN! Tolerance and Capacity: This lecture builds the framework on stress/recovery balance and how we can manipulate different factors to optimize the recovery times of our clients. I explain why we get hurt, the dissociation of pain and injury, and how we set up a training program to build resiliency over time. Mobility Assessment and Correction: Here we go through mobility prerequisites for each of our major movement patterns and how to assess each one to better guide your corrective process. I will also show you my most bang-for-your-buck mobility correctives to help improve any limitations. Movement Maps: This will be where we spend the large majority of our day. We will go through each of our major movement patterns and introduce you to the Prehab 101 Movement Maps. The Movement Maps are a step by step guide to progression and regression exercises of each movement pattern. So you can easily pick the right exercise for the right client and challenge them appropriately while engraining proper technique and motor learning. Dealing With Injuries: This section is one of my favorites as we get to talk about different injuries and look at evidence based ways to deal with them. This section is built off of my UNLOAD/RELOAD philosophy and will give you a framework to attack tissue injuries, psychosocial issues, progressive exposure, and reintroduction to full training.
