Another Side: Perinatal Mental Health and Art

Thu, 12 Jul 2018
17:30 - 19:30

Join CREATE artist Emma Sheridan and Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Perinatal Mental Health, Deirdre Madden from the National Maternity Hospital for an intimate conversation about mental health before during and after pregnancy.
In a casual chat, Emma and Deirdre will share the story of how they came to know each other: through Emma's experience of living with PTSD, OCD and depression, and how art and creativity helped her on her recovery journey.
As Emma said at the recent HSE Mind Mothers conference - 'Thinking wasn’t really working for me. I would get lost in my head and completely stuck. When I sketched the thoughts down I could see the truth in them so they became my voice. Once the thought was out of my head it seemed small. I started to see light at the end of the tunnel. We had found a way for me to harness my own powers.'

In the second half, Emma will lead an art workshop, delving into the world of colour, expression and silliness and challenging us to see another side of ourselves
