The Society of Artists and Eighteenth-Century Dublin

Sat, 14 Jul 2018
12:00 - 23:59

The Society of Artists exhibitions of 1766-80 took place in a city changing in both in apperance and senisbility. The exhibitions catered to a public recently coverted to Palladaian architecture, with tastes and aesthetic expectations increasingly shaped by the experience of the Grand Tour. Arran Henderson of Dublin Decoded leads a walking tour around the South William Street district drawing on details of both local artists and partons, in an attempt to sketch out some of the context and flavour of those times. Booking required. Duration: 2 hours. Image: A view of Powerscourt House, Dublin, in 1795 by James Malton (1761 – 1803) showing a corner of the City Assembly House
