A rewarding moderate to strenuous 5 hour (9 km) walk to the summit of Slieve Donard at 850 m (2,789 ft), the highest of the Mourne Mountains and the 19th highest peak in Ireland. The well defined path to the summit makes it a very popular and straightforward climb with the Mourne Wall acting as a guide to the summit and on the descent we will follow the glen river back to the carpark via newcastle. If your lucky, the views from the summit are far reaching and on a clear day the Isle of Man, the Wicklow Mountains, Wales and Scotland may be seen.
Cost Per Person – 5 Euro for non member. Card holding members come free!
All Money goes towards supporting the running of the club!
Clothing – Walking Shoes/ Boots are essential. Although it is difficult terrain, it is a trail the whole way. A set of Rain Gear is Recommended, as it is Ireland and it is a long walk, so Getting wet is fairly undesirable. Cotton or denim get very cold when wet, but wools, lycra and thermal lairs tend to stay warm.
Transport – Accessibly bar car only
