Cavan: Creative Non-Fiction with Caelainn Hogan
10:30 - 23:59
The dissident Vaclev Havel believed we must “serve the truth under all circumstances as our own essential experience.” Through exercises and readings, we will explore the increasingly boundary-pushing potential of non-fiction, dipping into autobiography, essay, reportage and oral history. The course will focus on exploring your subject, developing your voice, and honing the skills of good shoe-leather journalism. Participants will be encouraged to produce their own piece of non-fiction work and get down to the nitty gritty of pitching and publishing. Caelainn Hogan is a writer and journalist with work published in The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, VICE, The Guardian, The Dublin Review and others.
